Online YES Frequently Asked Questions

Here you will find answers to common questions about our at-home program for 1st – 4th grade students. Families of admitted students receive complete details via email prior to the start of a session. Still have a question? Email mity@macalester.edu or call us at (651) 696-6590.

How Does It Work?

Students can enroll in one or two classes each session.  Sessions run independently, meaning that families can choose which sessions work best for them.  You are welcome to add additional classes/sessions at any time.

Is There an Application Deadline?

No. MITY reviews applications on a rolling basis and will accept students into a class until it begins or becomes full.  When a class becomes full, it is noted on the website next to the course name and a waitlist is started.

What are the Dates and Times of Each Session?

Are Students Grouped by Age?

Yes.  1st and 2nd graders are together and 3rd and 4th graders are together.  In rare instances, these two groups are combined.

What Do I Do If I Need Tech Support?

Enrolled families will receive login information for each course a couple of days before the session begins.  If you are experiencing difficulty logging in, contact the teacher or call 651.470.6722.  If you are having trouble with a specific application used in a course, contact the teacher directly.

Should all of the application components be sent together?

The report card does not need to be sent with the application; however, we will not review an application until we receive both the report card and payment (or a request for financial aid).

How many students are in each class?

Classes range from 5 - 15 students.

Do Students have to be Identified as Gifted and Talented by their School District to Attend?

No. MITY welcomes all eager learners in its programs.

Do Students Receive a Grade or Performance Evaluation?

No. The purpose of MITY’s elementary-aged classes is to provide talented, motivated and curious students the opportunity to pursue an area of interest and try new things in a safe and supportive environment.  Students are more likely to take risks and learn from mistakes if they are free to be creative and work at their own pace.

Do Staff Undergo Background Checks?

Yes. MITY conducts background checks on all staff members prior to contact with children.
