Creative Writing

(0 review)

MITY’s Creative Writing is a two-week workshop for the curious, creative, motivated students who want to explore themselves and the world through writing. Our goal is to help students develop their creativity using language to become better, more productive writers and more insightful thinkers. In our supportive, fun, energetic environment students are encouraged to explore their ideas, think critically about and practice a variety of genres, and discover their unique voice. In addition to free-writing exercises and writing responses to varied prompts, students will generate stories, poetry, personal narratives, word play exercises, letters, essays, satire, plays, rants, and more.

Discussion of participants’ work is another important part of the workshop. The class culminates with an Open Mic performance. Students will receive coaching on their spoken word pieces, and learn to play with language in order to make it pop.

NOTE: While online learning modifications will be utilized for the summer of 2020, students should still anticipate a peer-to-peer workshop environment, personal attention to each writer’s style, process, and voice, a YouTube collection of Open Mic performances that will be made available to friends and families, and an in-house publication of the class’ works.
