The Thirteenth Amendment, Reconstruction, and the Impact on African Americans Today

George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, Trayvon Martin, Black Lives Matter.  Ever wonder how we got here?  The 13th Amendment, created to end slavery, is ground zero for the disenfranchisement and legalized marginalization of African American citizens.  If you are interested in discussing research, policy, and history such as Pig Laws, Jim Crow, Red Lining, and the Covenants, this is the course for you.  We will study how the 13th Amendment became pivotal in the continued disenfranchisement of African Americans in society today.  Come with an open mind and a willingness to hear and respect all voices as we lean into and discuss hard topics.
