Every day, we encounter challenging issues in the news ranging from war and healthcare costs to the ethics of AI. It can sometimes feel overwhelming or like the world is too complicated to change. But what if you could help make sense of these complex problems and even find solutions? This course is designed to give you the tools to critically evaluate the challenges around you and come up with thoughtful solutions, both individually and in collaboration with others. You will explore some of the most hotly debated topics in society today, using philosophy, social sciences, research, writing, and discussion to think through these challenges. You will also learn how to engage with people whose perspectives differ from your own and advocate for what you believe in. By the end of the course, you’ll be better equipped to approach moral dilemmas with respect, curiosity, and confidence. No prior knowledge of philosophy or politics is needed—just an open mind and a desire to engage.
