Introductory Logic And Proof: The Key To Mathematics

Opening the door to mathematics beyond Calculus is done with the ability to prove conjectures.  This course will introduce students to mathematical and symbolic logic as well as teach proofs through puzzles and games.  Through the exploration of grammar, students will learn to write formal mathematical proofs – the basis of any career in mathematics.  Other topics will include completeness, soundness, and axiomatic approaches to group, number, and set theory.  Students will leave this class with stronger problem solving and analytical skills as well as an interest in more abstract mathematics.  Prerequisite: Pre-Calculus or instructor’s approval.
