Did you know that the Twin Cities is the birthplace of one of the world leaders in gaming? Join us as we explore the history of games, determine what makes them interesting (or boring), and learn how to design and construct your very own game. This class will look at creating a game through the lens of the engineering and design process. We will research (play) lots of different games to understand the different mechanics that are present in classic and modern board games. We will use the analytical parts of our brain in assessing probabilities and scoring as well as our creative side in designing, modeling, prototyping and fabricating a game through traditional methods as well as 3D modeling and 3D printing. Finally, we will take a field trip to one of our local game establishments to explore their library and learn about our homegrown slice of the multibillion dollar board game industry by hearing from local professionals.
