This applied science course is designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of how chemical reactions impact our environment. Through hands-on labs, projects, and small group investigations, students will explore the social, economic, and environmental consequences of both naturally occurring and anthropogenic chemical reactions. The course emphasizes global environmental challenges such as ozone depletion, global warming, air and water pollution, and hazardous waste management. Topics will include the chemical mechanisms behind these issues, their real-world applications, and strategies for mitigation. By the end of the course, students will be equipped with the knowledge to analyze environmental issues and understand how chemistry is used to address real-world challenges.
