MITY’s Creative Writing is an intensive two-week workshop for curious, creative, motivated students who value writing. Our goal is to help students develop their creativity using language—to become better writers and more insightful thinkers. We seek to be a supportive, fun, energetic environment for students to explore their ideas and produce art that only THEY can create. Writers discover what they want to say in the act of writing and rewriting. With varied prompts and formats, students will critically think about and practice a variety of genres, discovering their unique voice in the process. In addition to freewriting exercises and responses to writing prompts, students will write stories, poetry, personal narratives, word play exercises, letters, essays, satire, invectives, etc. Sharing ideas, responding to prompts, participating in large group exercises and discussion of participants’ work are important parts of the workshop.
