Mathematical Logic: Reasoning Through Paradoxes and Puzzles

In this class, students will solve mysteries, untangle prickly paradoxes, and learn the tools of mathematical logic.  Some of the greatest discoveries in science and math have come from careful observation, creative thinking, and the application of the tools of formal logic that we will be learning.  Students will use mathematical logic to solve murders and find their way out of escape rooms.  We will unpack tricky paradoxes and solve logic puzzles that connect to open problems in math and computer science.  While the tools we will be using may seem like fun and games, they have far-reaching applications in the real world.  Join us if you are interested in making better arguments, understanding more clearly the objective truths of science, or simply enjoy a great logic puzzle.
