What is gender, and how do we form our identities? What does it mean to study not just these categories, but the lived experiences that come with them? Gender and sexuality play a huge role in shaping our world, affecting everything from how we express ourselves each day to how societies and systems of power are structured. This course offers an introduction to how gender and sexuality shape both our world and our individual identities. Since gender and sexuality are experienced differently depending on things like class, race, ethnicity, and culture, we’ll also explore how these factors intersect with and impact each other. Students will visit the Tretter Collection and an art museum, talk with guest speakers, and engage in many more experiential learning activities as they explore intersectionality in a complex world.
