Setting the Scene: The Psychology of Scenic Design

  • Session

  • Class Times

    1:00pm - 2:30pm CST

How does scenery heighten a mood? Can lighting and setting tell us something about the characters? Can color change how you are feeling? In this class you will explore these questions including the relationship between lighting and scenery and how that can have an affect on the audience’s experience. You will gain a better understanding of how light can manipulate color to create different effects. Using gouache paints, you will learn how to mix color and the basics of hand rendering. You will delve into the minutiae of a designer’s decision-making process based on a script or given text and then sit in the designer’s chair yourself to create an original concept drawing.
