From Plank to Board: Using Engineering Design to Build a Longboard

Do you enjoy working with your hands?  Are you interested in learning how to use tools?  In this class, students will design and construct their own longboard skateboard!  Participants will learn to safely and effectively use woodworking hand tools and power tools as they explore science concepts such as force, friction, and energy transfer. They will also encounter design concepts such as symmetry, alignment, balance, function, and form. Through the thoughtful application of the four C’s of engineering design – Creativity, Complexity, Choice, and Compromise – students will leave with a fully functional longboard skateboard of their own design and construction as well as the knowledge to safely ride and maintain their board!  ($140 course fee)
