Introduction To Playwriting

  • Time of Day

    Afternoon Class (1:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. CST)

This class will introduce students to the fabulous world of writing for the stage.  Students will learn about setting, stage directions, playwriting vocabulary, and writing with intention.  Using games and exercises, we will write dialogue to show, not tell, what is happening, and workshop lines together.  Students will develop characters, including their goals and the obstacles that stand in the way, discover how to introduce conflict, and learn how to make action progress.  We will combine characters from your favorite shows or books, transport the audience to a different time or place, make animals or inanimate objects talk, and write amusing monologues.  If you love theater and being creative, this is the class for you!
