How do you build a tower that will support the most weight using the lightest materials? How does mechanical advantage help you when you are using simple machines? Where does 3D printing and online design software fit in? How can you construct a Rube-Goldberg device that shows energy transformations? Students in this class will explore various team challenges using mathematical knowledge, engineering skills, and the scientific method. We will build a variety of bridges and towers to evaluate efficiency, design, and construction. Students will create a vehicle and braking system, possibly smashing a few eggs in the final race. Together we will collect and analyze data, make adjustments, and improve our designs throughout these and other explorations.
