How do artists respond to global crises throughout history and the world and how can we make our own art in response to the current pandemic? Join us as we explore the rich history around artists’ interpretations of and responses to global issues such as the Black Death and the Renaissance, the WPA artists during the Great Depression, the Dada movement following WWI, and Abstract Expressionism in answer to WWII. This class will explore art history to see the resilience, response and creativity of the human spirit during challenging times throughout history. Finally, students will use this historical inspiration to create their own art around their personal experiences during this strange and historic time of the coronavirus pandemic. ($50 course fee)
