What do magical spiders, traditional West African kente cloth and upcycling have in common? Join us to find out! Students will explore the Ghanaian folk story of The Spider Weaver, examine traditional kente cloth designs, and look at the Ghanaian artist, El Anatsui, who uses plastic, candy wrappers, bottle caps, and other garbage and recyclables to create a contemporary version of textiles. Using these and other sources for ideas and inspiration, students will create their own woven artwork from discarded materials.
