Project Citizen starts with an introduction to government and civics. Over the course of a few lessons, students learn the basic principles of our democratic society, the difference between public policy and private enterprise, and a little about what the government can do to address problems. Students will be choosing an issue in their community that they would like to address. They will identify the problem, identify potential public policy solutions to the problem, choose a solution and make a case for it, and develop an action plan. If students feel strongly about their issues, the final project will be the students presenting their ideas to the appropriate government agency.

About Online ExplorSchool
For Students In Grades 5 – 8
MITY’s Online ExplorSchool provides bright students with the opportunity to explore a topic of interest with similarly motivated peers. The goal is to keep students challenged and engaged as they build, create, and solve real world problems. Each class features a variety of activities that take students away from a screen as they use their hands to design and construct. Importantly, students also have opportunities to socialize with their peers through non-academic activities.
