Tiny Home Living: An Engineering Challenge

The human population continues to grow as living space shrinks. People are starting to think of ways to make the most out of a smaller space. Your challenge will be to design and construct a living space that could have many uses including a living room, kitchen and bedroom. Students will use the design thinking process as they do research, grow empathy for those already experiencing this issue, and build and refine prototypes. This class will require hands-on work utilizing several types of building materials already found in the home such as recyclable materials, LEGOs, and potentially a 3-D modeler such as Minecraft.

About Online ExplorSchool

For Students In Grades 5 – 8

MITY’s Online ExplorSchool provides bright students with the opportunity to explore a topic of interest with similarly motivated peers. The goal is to keep students challenged and engaged as they build, create, and solve real world problems. Each class features a variety of activities that take students away from a screen as they use their hands to design and construct. Importantly, students also have opportunities to socialize with their peers through non-academic activities.
