Games are more than just entertainment. They challenge us to think, plan, and solve problems. In this class, students will explore strategy-based games from different cultures while developing skills in logical thinking, creativity, and decision-making. Throughout the week, we will learn and play a variety of traditional games, analyze the strategies behind them, and discuss what makes a game balanced, challenging, and fun. We will also discover how similar games appear in different parts of the world; for example, the game of checkers has close relatives like Dama played in Turkey. As they play, students will practice sportsmanship, test strategies, and reflect on how rules shape the way games are played. By the end of the week, students will apply what they’ve learned to design their own original game. This class is ideal for curious students who enjoy challenges, strategy, and creative thinking.
