Engineering Artificial Limbs

Have you ever wondered how Hiccup Haddock III’s prosthetic foot works in the How to Train Your Dragon series?  In this class, students will work in small groups to complete hands-on challenges and experiments related to prosthetics.  You will use the engineering design process to design, build, test, and improve a prosthetic bird beak, fish tail, elephant leg, and finger/hand.  Students will also study real-life examples and perform challenges with each of their prosthetics to ensure their designs meet “client” needs.  This class will strengthen students’ empathy, perseverance, problem-solving skills, and much more.
