Join us as we step back in time to explore the incredible inventions and engineering feats of Ancient China! In this hands-on class, students become engineers, designers, and scientists as they recreate some of history’s most remarkable innovations. You will build a model of the Great Wall, complete with a working zipline between guard towers. You will also blend creativity with problem-solving as you design your own string instrument inspired by the erhu and ruan. As you continue to experiment with the engineering design process, you will make your own moveable type for printing and, if time allows, explore how magnetism made navigation possible with the invention of the compass. This class connects science, history, and design to show how ancient ideas continue to shape our modern world.

MITY's program for elementary students enables inquisitive, high achieving 1st - 5th grade students to continue learning outside of the traditional classroom. Courses are intentionally designed to inspire inquiry, activate imaginations, and engage eager learners in hands on discovery that is not possible within a regular classroom setting. While students are in class, parents are invited to listen to professional speakers on topics related to raising bright children, socialize with other parents, or visit a local coffee shop.
