Law & Performance: The Art of Persuasion in Mock Trial (WAITLIST)

  • Session

    EYM 2024 Session A

  • Class Category

    Humanities

As it turns out, the secret to a good trial is how well you sell it. Does the jury follow your story? Is the judge inclined to believe your client acted in good faith? In this course, students will examine a mock trial case from a variety of perspectives – as lawyers, as witnesses, and as members of the jury. They will work on building openings and closings, direct and cross-examinations, and strong arguments and objections. They will study case law and legal precedent, and will have the opportunity to speak with active litigators and legal professionals in the field. By the end of the class, they will have run their very own trial which will be judged by former Mock Trial competitors. This course is perfect for students interested in law, debate, and public speaking, and performance.
