Our everyday world is built from deliberate choices: the layout of streets, the height of a bench, the species of plants in a park, the placement of public art. Most of us walk past these elements without realizing how they create our environment or allow it to function. Landscape Architecture is the discipline that helps to make these elements more apparent and understandable as it bridges engineering, science, and the arts. In this course you’ll gain insight on how to see the world like a Landscape Architect and their influence within it. You’ll sketch and model ideas, go on field trips, and hear from practicing professionals. You’ll build design and problem-solving skills with fast-paced projects that will be completed both solo and in small groups, culminating in a final design for an ideal public space that brings together function, sustainability, and visual impact. By the end, you’ll never experience a park bench, an empty lot, or a roadway the same way again.
