For a young scientist, there is a lot of information in the news about epidemiology. Join us as we break down the facts and talk about different types of viruses and their basic structures, consider lessons from past pandemics, explore viral transmission and replication, and see how to “flatten the curve” and reduce transmission. We will explore vaccine development and discuss the current progress against Covid-19 with vaccines and boosters. We will use simulations and modeling activities to look at large-scale changes, try out hands-on activities and experiments to explore and connect the investigations to our lives at home, and check out readings and video clips to go even deeper into the subject!

MITY’s ExplorSchool provides rising 6th-8th grade students a unique opportunity to investigate new topics and dive deeper into their passions at a level that is challenging and motivating. Intellectually curious students take two classes, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, enabling them to explore different disciplines, experience things that are not possible within a normal school setting, and forge new friendships.
