Come and explore the many ways to create with clay. We will study the history of clay through examining its geologic origins and the specific qualities of the material. During the first week of class we will create both sculptural and utilitarian pieces. Utilizing techniques both on and off the pottery wheel will challenge students to understand the vast possibilities of this medium. In the second week we will focus on glazing, loading kilns and learning the details involved with a variety of kiln styles and firing methods. Experience working in clay is not needed; students will be able to begin projects as their skills dictate.
