Why do eggs change from liquid to solid when cooked? Why do oil and vinegar separate? And how does sugar turn into caramel? In this hands-on class, students become food scientists as they explore the science behind everyday cooking. We will investigate topics like heat transfer, chemical reactions, emulsions, and the surprising ways ingredients change when they are mixed and heated. Through daily experiments and cooking, students will test hypotheses, collect data, and discover how science explains what happens in the kitchen. At the end of the week, students will use what they’ve learned to design and present their own food science creation. This class is perfect for curious kids who love experiments, problem-solving, and delicious discoveries.
