Travel the globe without leaving the classroom in this hands-on bookmaking and writing class that explores how different cultures have shaped books. Students will investigate and create a variety of book structures from around the world, such as Japanese stab binding, accordion folds from Mesoamerica, and palm-leaf inspired formats, learning how materials, function, and storytelling influence design. By the end of the session, students will have a small library of their own handmade books. This class is ideal for writers, artists, and curious makers who love to think with their hands and write beyond the margins.
