An idea by several Minneapolis and St. Paul educators – sparked the curiosity of teachers and students searching for a stimulating environment to expand their knowledge beyond the standard school curriculum. With the support of local foundations, businesses, school boards and private donations; and eagerly anticipated by extraordinary students and master teachers, The Twin Cities Institute for Talented Youth launched its first class the summer of 1967.
Over the next 50 years, TCITY would expand to include students from across the U.S. and around the world and change its name to MITY, Minnesota Institute for Talented Youth. MITY also expanded its reach by adding the YES program for elementary students and EXPLORSCHOOL for students in middle school.
Today, MITY serves over 700 students from grades 1 through 12. But, even after 50 years, MITY and TCITY students, staff and alumni are bonded by their experiences at the Institute. Since 1967, the Institute has welcomed change and growth, but its mission has remained the same: to offer an educational experience in which talented students explore their passions and are challenged to grow on an academic, creative, and personal level, surrounded by a safe and supportive community of passionate teachers and staff. For 50 years, the MITY experience has inspired thousands of students to recognize their talents and allow them to flourish.
MITY offers STEM, Humanities and Fine Arts curriculums to stimulate young minds in a high level of learning without focusing on grades. Each engaging program is taught by master teachers and allows your child to explore exciting new topics, stretch their brain, develop leadership skills and meet friends just like themselves.
